New Malden teenager Melanie South has been awarded two wildcards to play in the Wimbledon Championships this year.
The first ended in disappointment when the 19 year old lot 5-7 6-3 6-4 to Hungarian Rita Kuti Kis in the first qualifying round at Roehampton yesterday.
However, she will still grace the hallowed turf of the All England Club, having received a wild card into the main draw of the women's doubles with fellow Brit Katie O'Brien.
South, who is coached by Lucie Ahl at Queen's Club, has won three ITF doubles titles this year together with an ITF singles title.
She also plays in the Kia National Club League for Wimbledon LTC who ar one of four Surrey teams to have qualified for the Grand Final Play Offs.
Wimbledon, featuring South, Alex Napier, Mandy Spicer, Lisa Bailey and Sally Godman, ensured their play-off place by beating Haddenham LTC 6-0 on Sunday to finish top of the Ladies South division. The National Division One plays offs will take place on Saturday July 9th.
